The National Scholastic Championship, or the NSC, is a national high school tournament organized annually by PACE since 1998. The first NSC was held at Case Western Reserve University, with 31 teams in attendance. Since then, the number of teams has more than tripled as the competitive quality of the tournament reached new highs each year. The questions written for NSC has correspondingly improved in quality to become the premier tournament available for high school students to compete in, and serves to cap off the regular season for many teams. With round-robin style groups and 20 tossup + bonus question cycles per match, the tournament format is similar to the standardized format of quizbowl found around the country. Uniquely, the NSC format features no penalties for incorrect answers and 20 points for answering tossups early.
